There is Truly Only One Thing You Need to Start…

...and it's the one thing that will keep you going

It's not strength, flexibility, a background in dance, being a gymnast, being in shape, being under 30, or having deep meaningful inspiration and a set plan of what you want to do with pole.

Truly the only thing you need is curiosity. Sure it might be helpful to be strong or bendy, but neither is required-that's why we have classes after all, right?

This is not a space to take inventory of everything you feel you're lacking-the world at large does that to us enough. This is a space to show up as is and see what happens from there.

It's a space to learn how to start listening to your body and work with it instead of trying to force it to conform: whether it's to our own ideas of what it should be doing or what we see other pole dancers doing.

Pole is hard. Even beginner pole classes are hard. Those moves that look the most simple are deceptively hard. Fuck, even moving in a way that is 100% what your body truly desires is hard work.

You will have moments where you wonder why you do this at all. Moments where you question if you're even good enough at this to keep going. It's an absolutely normal part of any learning process, I have no idea why we keep pretending these normal feelings somehow should not exist when it comes to pole dance.

In those moments where you feel like you're most frustrated, stop what you're doing, take a few breaths and remember to be curious. Ask your body what it wants that day, remind yourself gently rolling on the floor is always a valid form of movement and stillness doesn't mean you're "doing nothing".

With curiosity there's no right or wrong, no perfection, no pressure to be or do anything outside of that very moment. And that is where magic starts to happen.

I promise you this-curiosity has taken me places my most well thought out plans never could. And now I'm lucky enough to get to explore with you all.

Can't wait to see where the rest of the year takes us at the studio. Check out what's coming up and join us for open ended, curious, nurturing mind/body/soul sensual exploration.

XOXO,

Andrea
